hooking up brakes
Greetings everyone,
My brand new axles, for my 73 Agrosy, from Inland RV will be delivered tomorrow , cant wait
i have read on how to install them , which seems to be not that hard
the only thing i am unsure about is how to hook up the new breaks.
The trailer does not seem to have any color coding on the wires
could anyone help with this

Way to go on the axle replacement. It dosent matter which way you hook up the wires.

Electric brakes are "not" polarized.
It does not matter which color goes to which color.

The DC magnets will work with the wires connected either way.
Check the alignment of the axles when you are done. I use an 8 ft florescent light bulb laid across the edges of the tires at the center line. The bulb should touch each side of each of the tires. Anything greater than an 1/8 in. will result in excess tire wear.

Howie.
The bulb is a good tool.
The bulb should only touch the "rear" edge of the tires, for perfect alignment.
The front of each tire should have about 1/8 clearance from the bulb.
Thats the specs on a new Henschen axle.

If you have a long florescent light bulb, about the straightest thing on earth, and place it against the edge of the tires so it passes through the center of each tire the bulb will show any misalignment. Ideally the bulb should touch the rear edge of each tire and have about an zero to 1/8 in. gag between the tire and the bulb at the front edge of the tire. If you see any gap other than this the axles are out of alignment and will effect tire wear.
Make sure when you do this that there are not a raised point on the tire one or more of the tires, style numbers or letters.
The nature of assembly for these axles dose not lend itself to accuracy and corrective alignment is often required.
This test does not address camber angle, but camber angle is not the issue on a trailer that it is on a steering axle.
My trailer as delivered from the factor would tare up a set of tires in less than 5,000 miles. After corrective alignment I ran them for over 100,000 miles before replacement.
If alignment is required you will have to find a Truck axle shop. Do not take the trailer to JC because they have no idea how to do this. Been there did that.

Thanks, this helps a lot
as soon as the axles are in i will post a few pics from the process.
this could take a few days.
I am still waiting on the shocks , Andy mentioned that they are on back order.
lets wait and see

If I am reading this right it should have a toe out of 1/16 " ? Is that correct? Dave

Airstream has shipped our load of shocks via motor freight, since there are so many of them.
They should arrive by the 27th.
We will immediately fill all the shock back orders at that time.
