Hey Andy,

What years were Henschens used on Airstreams?

Hey thanks.

I would assume prior to 1961 it was leaf springs. Correct?

And didn't Airstream recently changed vendors for axles? And I guess that would be for 2006?

Has anyone tested the MOR/ryde suspension system?
Was this ever used by airstream?

http://www.morryde.com/php/products/...bles/index.php

According to their site they have a Terraport, and FREE LUNCH!

MOR/ryde system was never used by Airstream, and I doubt it ever would be.

With the MOR/ryde system, the running gear "MUST" be finely balanced at all times.

The system is very sensitive to small vibrations, which are transfere to the shell.

In the early 70's, that system was used on a SOB trailer, without balanced running gear. We repaired over 50 of the box trailers that had that system.
It actually backed out the staples holding the sheet metal on the coach.

After the metal repairs, balancing the running gear solved the problem.

I have no idea what MOR/ryde is doing today, but their system is much more involved than the simple torsion axles.

Action,

Yes they did, they are now using Dexter Axle as the primary supplier and looking for a second source.

Airstream has not locked the doors on Dexter "only".

At this time other avenues are open and will be explored by Airstream, in due time.

You're right

Andy,

You're right - thus the words "primary" and "second source"

Henry

Does anyone know WHY Airstream has switched to the DEXTER axle? Interesting since Henschon is right IN Jackson Center.....

I don't believe that Airstream has divulged why they switched after some forty years of using Henschen. Most manufacturers buy based on quantity pricing for profit margin. I would conjecture that Dexter probably gave them a better per-unit quantity price structure. There are also other potential issues; delivery time in quantity... there are many contract issues in a supply contract. I doubt that it's anything more sinister than "cost control through subcontract administration" and "just in time supplier" business practices by Jackson Center.

Perhaps this was a factor:

Perhaps NOT!
