You should consider going with 3200 pound axle, with 12 inch brakes and at least a 32 degree starting angle.

I put a 3500 lb Dexter axle on mine in 2004 and I've been very happy with it. There was some concern that it might be too stiff, but that hasn't been an issue.

Steph.

All torsion axles are too stiff.

And, all torsion axles are inadequate for the payload.

It all depends on the loading.

Each person, must determine, within reason, the total payload that will be imposed on the axle/axles.

In that way, a fair judgement call can be made as to the rating of a replacement axle/axles.

As an example, some owners insist on a full tank of water, others travel with no water aboard.

For that matter, full water should always be carried, as it lowers the center of gravity of the trailer, which helps it track better, and, in the event of a blown radiator hose, all you need is a little duct tape, and of course some of that water, that hopefully, is in the trailer.

Andy is a big fan of duct tape.

Regardless what you choose for an X jack the trailer up enough to work comfortably and block it up fore and aft well. Good solid base, cribbing is worth the effort. Bottle jacks only can get real tippy. Once up and stable changng the X really is easy. Things can go bad quick if the axle is down and you need more height or start to loose a jack point.
