Dexter Torsion with no lower shock mount?
I appreciate all the help in previous replies to my previous threads, as the forum teaches me about trailer axels. I ordered my dexter torsion axel from a local vendor, and he tells me that Dexter will not install a lower shock mount on the axel. He suggested my best option was to cut off the old one and have somebody locally weld it on the new axel when it arrives.
Can anybody confirm that dexter will not install a lower shock mount ( maybe it's the first time somebody asked this local guy)
If welding one on after it leaves the factory is the usual solution, is there a vendor that can supply a fresh one to weld on ?

I just received my new axle from Axis. They provide the lower shock mount separately. Their is too much variation in where they need to be for different trailers that they don't want to deal with welding them in a different place every time. Axis sells them separately so maybe you could by theirs and have them welded to your Dexter. I ordered mine through Andy at Inland RV.

I received my axles last year from Axis and the shock mount were welded on. I filled out their dimension form and sent them many pictures of my axles.

Looks like he has already decided to go with Dexters.
I know several Airstream dealers have those brackets, and you can buy them separately from Axis/Al-Ko. You can also cut off the old ones and re-use them. Before you weld on them, check with Dexter, as the last time I asked about this, they told me welding the brackets would void the warranty.

As of a few years ago, Dexter would weld on brackets to the 22 degree axles if you knew the magic option number. I'm out camping this weekend and can't really dig it up. It's documented in a thread I did called "Epiphany gets new axles" if you feel like reading some.

I cut the old ones off and welded them on to the new axle torsion arm. The portion of the torsion arm that is inserted into the main axle rubber rod area did not even get warm. All in all it only took about an hour to accomplish.

dexter documents
Check out these documents. Dexter will weld them on the 22.5 degree but not the others.
Go with the 32.5 degree and have them welded on. Did it myself and it's not a big deal. The extra clearance is worthwhile.

Shock brackets are available, separate from an axle purchase.
