Bambi 2 axle, wheels, & tires
Can someone please help me with what I need to order a axle from Dexter for my 1964 Bambi 2? I don't understand why this is such an ordeal. I've been dealing with this for months and I still don't know what I'm doing!
Please help!

Call Inland RV or Colin Hyde with your VIN number. That is all you need to do.

You'll need to order a 10TF35-545E.
That will get you a #10 Dexter axle tube with 10" electric brakes and 5 lug drums on 4 1/2 bolt circle. Then you'll spec the down angle (22 1/2° was standard), then the hub face, should be 76" and the outside bracket dimension, again should be 57.875", these 2 dimensions you can check against your existing axle, finally the weight rating, you can spec anything from 2300# to 3500# in the #10 tube.
Finally you'll need to spec the mounting brackets to be installed reverse for Airstream trailer.
Your original rating should have been 3K.
You can order this from any Dexter dealer

I got my axles from Colin Hyde and had good results. That said, I did have new holes to drill and a notch to make deeper to get the new axles to mount up. Colin told me I would need these modifications. I did not have to weld on shock mounts.
New axles on old trailers can sometimes be challenging.

Ditto on Colin Hyde, he spected my Bambi II axle. Perfect fit and no surprises.

Thank you all for your help. I did order an axle from Andy at Inland RV in July and tried to have it installed in Houston. The guy that tried it install it said that it was all wrong! I don't know who to believe however I'm thinking I need another installer. This is what I ordered: HF=74.50, OB=57.88, 12" drums with 6 lug on 5.5, 3500# capacity. Tires are st225 75r 15 low range "D" . Starting angle 32 down.

I ordered my new axles from Andy, and minor modifications were necessary to mount them. I documented the process, pictures and all starting in post number 169 in my "Resurrecting Big Bertha, or How I Spent $30,000 on a $2,000 trailer" thread. Call Andy up and explain your problem. Inland RV was EXTREMELY helpful in getting me the right axles and installation advice...

Did you contact Inland with your fitment problem? They might of sent you the incorrect axle. They should make it right for you. If not you do have other options

^^^^^^What AWCHIEF said^^^^^^ Dexter shipped me the wrong axles when I ordered them... Sent me somebody else's axles by mistake. Andy caught the error, before I got them installed thankfully, called me up to let me know, and then arranged to have the proper axles shipped to me express so I could make my anniversary trip that I had planned. Again, call him. They're great people.
