Axles for '75 Sovereign
I am getting ready to order new axles for my 75 31 footer.
Here are my measurements.
Do these look right?
you can click on the image to bring it up in another window to make it larger.

A couple of your dimensions are wrong.
We don't need any dimensions, just the trailer serial number, when customers order axles from us.
Effective immediately, we are also offering a 10 year warranty on Henschen axles.
Those details will be posted in our web site, this week.

Just because- I measured the hub face of both my drain pipes today. Nothin to scientific, I figured with zero offset rims only need to go from center of tire tread to the other tires center. I got 80 inches. both trailers. Which brings up a ?. If you have the tires off and measure hub face it seems as the two hubs are not co-planer. because the axle has that bend thing going on. so wouldn't it be better to measure with the axle loaded? just wondering out loud. Cooties spreading?
So no one has anything to say? Michael how did you cure your cooties? I'm switchin to Old Spice.
Once again I'm thinking out loud.
Seems as if -the width of Airstreams seems to be the same O.K. maybe 3 different widths and a few different frame widths.
Part of the manufacturing process profitability seems to indicate commonality in parts. A Great dealer would have a few axles on hand - maybe- what do I know!
Where can I get "The Handbook of Airstream Axle Interchangeability??"
I know the axle threads get heated and closed sometimes, but these are new questions.
I want the handbook.Only because I need the knowledge. DG

We usually have 20 to 30 "Henschen" axles on hand.
To my knowledge, there is no such handbook.

Andy, when does that go into effect? would that cover the axles that I just purchsed from you and picked up 3 weeks ago? Can you or will you send me notification to that effect? I am very happy with my axles, I am glad at this point that I did not go a different route. If you are adding a 10 warranty than that would be icing on the cake.

This "Book" in rough form was attempted to be started by a fellow forum member - see:
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f437...ase-29712.html
If more folks would chime in - this could be easily created by forums members that have done axle changeouts!

Henry

That dealer cannot purchase a Henschen axle direct.
If they choose to use another brand axle, then they need to know "all" the necessary parameters.

Dave.
We are changing a part of our web site, that will state amoung some other items, the following.
All Henschen axles purchased are warranted, with some exceptions (that will be posted in our web site), for a period of ten (10) years.
All brake, bearing, hub and drum parts that were purchased, that came with a Henschen axle, with some exceptions, are warranted for a period of two (2) years.
The above warranties will apply to the axles and parts as described above, and are retroactive to and effective from January 1, 2007.

Thanks Andy, T and R does. The axle is in stock and they take great pride in their workmanship. As near as I can tell, the customer is King at T and R.

Thanks Andy, I saw your other posting on warranties from various manufacturers, and I am happy that I got mine from you. I am also glad that I did not have to modify anything on the trailor to install them. My only small complaint is the brake drums themselves and the condition of balance that they were manufactured to. I make precision diamond wheels and use a precision balancing outfit for some of my high speed or large format tools, they also balance the brake rotors for Rousch, and for the Nascar programs of GM and Chrysler. The drums that came with my axles were out by 7 ounces! I had them balanced to within a 1/4oz-in. A bit overkill but at least I will have satisfaction in knowing that they are good for awhile. Is there some way you could talk GKN into a balancing step before shipment specifically for Airstreams? If done in quantity your talking about adding between $5-$10 per drum in manufacturing cost, and one more feather in your cap for marketing purposes.

I will take up your suggestion with GKN Henschen and will advise you accordingly.
