Axles and Tires

It has been a while since I have posted progress on the Cowgirl camper as we're calling her.

We are almost to the back bathroom area in replacing the floor one piece at a time and sanding/repainting the frame as we go. We did not do a complete shell off because the didn't have the indoor space to keep it. But boy after dealing w getting plywood under that channel I wish we did. Any how... the camper is a slow go bc it's at my parents about 4 hrs away. Hope within the next month or so to get the floor done and be ready to new axels and tires. I originally wasn't going to get them till the end but I need to to go ahead and move her closer to me to work on more. Suggestions for axels and tires? Haven't done any research on what to get yet

I would argue that your axles, old and saggy as they may be, ought to be fine to make a 4 hr. trip. You could change them now, or change them later, but you may be surprised at how much longer your trailer takes to be ready for the road--no sense in brand new axles aging for a year or two while you work on the trailer.

Tires are important, but again, $100 ST trailer tires will get you through a 4 hr trip. No sense in brand new tires aging out while you finish the rennovation either.

good luck!

Looking at where you are on the project, I'd agree and maybe wait a while for axles.
It took me nearly 2 years on my 68 and it was in my driveway. OTOH,we did use it a lot as an "aluminum tent' so new axles may be a good idea sooner rather than later.
I got mine from Colin Hyde and would recommend dealing with him. Call him, tell him your trailer and he will have them drop shipped from the factory to your location. I have a friend in the HVAC business with a loading dock and fork lift. Really glad I had them sent there. Lot's of axle threads here so won't go into it anymore than that. As for wheels and tires, another huge "can of worms" . Tons of stuff here and lots of opinions, just read all you can. I used my original wheels and baby moon hub caps.
Let me know if you have any 68 specific questions, I"ll be glad to help.
