Can anyone tell me the actual shipping weight of 3200# Henschen axles with wheels and shocks?

Axles are about 250 pounds each, shocks are about 5 pounds each, and wheels depends on aluminum or steel wheels.

I bet if U would PM Andy at Inland RV's he can tell ya what they weigh cause he ships enough of them. He is the only dealer for Henshen in the USA.

Why are you including the Wheels in your question? Axles are sold Hub to Hub and do not include the wheels or the shocks.

Remember the shipping weight must include pallet and banding and about a zillion feet of duct tape holding the bags of lug bolts to the assembly...

Terry, in my opinion, gave you the best answer @250 lbs each loaded axle.

My axles came strapped together just as pictured below - No pallet.

But I just now pulled out the freight slip for my Overlander's TWO axles from Andy, and the "TTL WEIGHT LBS." was listed at 276.

Now I was missing the promised Grade-8 hardware, but 224 lbs for the addition seems a bit high...

For estimating purposes, go with Terry & budget a 500 pound freight charge.

Do you think this is an important repair on a 1966 Caravel? Andy has suggested it but he has not seen it, looking for other opinions.

I remember the angst you are experiencing now. I know nothing about your Airstream's condition.

My recommendation, for you, is to get your Caravel camp-ready, and go out and use it for several trips. If you decide you like camping AND you think camping in a '66 Airstream Caravel is the best way to do it, then replace your axle.

You more than likely have the original axle & it is beating up your Airstream.

But if you don't like the whole experience, why waste your money? Vintage Caravels are extremely desirable, and you can sell it for big bucks as is.

42 year old axles are almost certainly gonners. Don't believe people when they tell you life begins at 40...

You'll soon learn that Andy's opinion has a lot of years and experience behind it. You might do better searching somewhere else, for less money, but if your time and energy is valuable one phone call to Andy and you got what you need and the parts you need. Then you can spend your searching time on something else.

Two 3500lb dexters came on a pallet. Shipping weight listed as 298lbs. Not as heavy as thought they would be. G

Bare axles are about 145 pounds, each.

Complete axles weigh about 240 pounds, each.

Freight lines will also add the weight of the pallet, as well.

This is our 1965 Caravel on October 27th, 2002. We didn't know at the time that old axles were a problem. Had we known, we would have changed it and not had this problem.

We have cautioned and cautioned owners that the Caravel and Bami axles will fail, but when they do, it will never be in your front yard.

At this point, we are shipping replacements for them at the rate of better than one a week, and about half of that time, it's because the trailer is stranded because the axle failed.

Not what anyone really wants to hear, but the word needs to get out, big time, so that others don't suffer the consequences.

Andy, What was it about the Caravel and Bambi axles that make them prone to fail. Is it just the age, or were they undersized from the get go?

Andy is on vacation for a couple of weeks, but the spindles on the trailers were not large enough for the weight that was placed upon them.

I ordered and receive axels from Andy and his folks. They were perfect fits. Also got the brake assemblies. They came strapped to a pallet. They were sent by UPS Freight. Something to remember. UPS charges $72 just for the privilege (?) of delivering to your residence - over and above the regular freight charges. So if you have a friend that has a business, have them delivered there and pick them up.

I wonder if you have a picture of the axles on the pallet. Was it a standard 4x4 pallet and did the axle hang over the ends? Were all the parts (bolts) there as promised. I will be dragging mine to Indianola as soon as possible and hope to moor a boat in the marina in front of the Inn.

I assure you that an axle that's about 7 feet wide, is going to hang over the side of a 4 foot pallet, no matter how you slice it.

Freight lines today, have the game. All consumers can do is cope the best you can.
