axle rust

We have received this PM from "Jonne Atman - New Member" who, I suspect, send it to us by mistake.
Here was the question:

I have seen some rust on the outside of the axles. At what point should I be worried enough to replace them. It is a 1969 Streamline and has got square axles. Should I be investigating redoing the axles and if so how?or can I find square ones. I really appreciate any help you can offer because I am not very mechanical.
