Have been looking at the axle rating on the new sport. It looks as though the wt. would be maxed out with opts. such as: air, awning and microwave. (200)lb.If you add fuels and water perhaps (190)lb. or so. The axel is rated at 4000 lb. and the dry wt. at 3500. I asked the salesman and he said the opt. are part of dry wt. I don't think so. Also it looked to me as though you could order an axle that could carry 4500. Does any one know anything about this.

This came up a while back. The options are not part of the dry weight, but you do need to subtract the toungue weight from the weight of the trailer since that weight is not on the axels. That would give you several hundred more pounds of stuff.

The heavier duty axels are for Canada, I am not sure if you can order them or not.

Thanks for the quick reply. I saw them (axles as a opt.) listed in the add. materal the dealership gave me. I don't think the salespeople really care if they give you the info. or if they just don't know the answere.

hi airperson and welcome to the forums...

are you dealing with david tidmore at rogerwilliams a/s in weatherford?

he will guide you to the best setup and he IS top notch for service and refined modifications.

NO ONE better in the dfw region or texas for that matter.

there are a few other threads on this low carry capacity issue...

search 'safari sport'

coloradobus was/is looking into ordering a until with higher rated axles...

the gvwr IS 4000lbs for a 3800lb trailer.

options aren't part of the base weight, but they have started to include a spare tire NOW so this should be included.

and NO NO NO you cannot subtract the tongue weight magically for more payload.

(sorry az') but this is misleading, like suggesting a w/d hitch increases payload.

it is the GVWR that is listed that is the limitation not JUST the axle rating.

cheers

Don't be sorry, if I was wrong, I was wrong.
I based my answer on another thread where I pointed out the small amount of cargo you could carry on one of these units. I do think we can agree on several things:
  1. They are very nice units
  2. Cargo load is very limited.
  3. Dry weight does not include options or your stuff.
  4. Salespeople are sometimes ill informed or less then truthful.
