'73 23' Safari

I am going out to look at the Safari posted by Ron B in the classifieds. Couple of questions. How do you tell if the axles need replacement and as we are looking at a 6 month long trip, do they have failures on the road suddenly? My only experience with torsion axles were on Vdubs and they never failed. What type of ride height should they be or isn't it critical? Also,
what is the tire and wheel size for this trailer? One needs to be replaced.
Anything else critical to look at? He claims even the carpets are original. Said very little use.

Thanks,
Terry

A quick (and not always accurate) test is to look at the side of the wheel/tire. If the body of the trailer has settled enough to cover the entire top of the tire to the edge of the top of the wheel, it is time for axles. Even if it is close. And on a 34 year old trailer that has not been used ...... plan on it. The non-use is worse that than hard use.

There will be no sudden failure of these types of axles.
