1976 Globetrotter Restoration - Axle & Suspension

Greetings

I've been remodeling the interior of my '76 Airstream from the bottom up. I do plan to post before and after pictures.

Wondering about the suspension and axle. This is a single axle trailer. Do I need to check the integrity of the axle and if so, how would I go about doing this?

How often do the wheel bearings need to be inspected and greased? Same for the brakes?

Finally, it looks like the original shocks are still on her. What will I gain by replacing the shocks and what is a compatible brand and model.

Thanks for your help!

Ken,
Take a look at the links on this page at Inland Andy's site and you will learn how to determine if your axles are good or bad...

http://www.inlandrv.com/axles/

Bearings should be repacked every year and while that is being done the brakes etc can be inspected.

As for shocks I think Andy also has the recommended shocks for Airstreams, but I do not recall what they are exactly.

Welcome aboard.

This is the thread on my 71 Globetrotter. I replaced the complete axle assembly with a Dexter 4500 lb unit. New brakes, hubs, drums, Everything, Cost me 512 dollars including shipping.
