1961 Tradewind Axle/Brakes/Tires/Rims

Any input would be appreciated: what axles, brakes, rims and tires should I replace original with?

First is there are reason you are replacing items?
Just updating or is there an issue?

A '61 will have a straight axle with leaf springs. Unless there is a problem the axle should be serviceable. Not so much for the springs and a spring shop could hanle that job. Or order springs on line with accurate measurements and knowing the total load.

15" RV rims with zero offset assuming you have split rims. If not what is wrong with the rims you have now?

Knowing the total load will determine tires.

Mine has the torque axles with 16" tires, wheel wells are pretty battered.

If you have torsion axles on a '61, likley they are welded on to the frame. The early years were like that.

In any case 74 year old springs are done no matter what design and replacement is prudent. In the case of welded axles you have a job ahead. Measurments as to width, mounting and load capacity are necessary.

Good luck.

late '61 could have had original torsion X. If its original it is shot period. Here's a partial list. Rubber torsion arms are set. Inside square tube is rusted. Spindles from this era had poor quality control in the steel, suffer from fatigue and break. Brakes are iffy & parts are had to find. However odds are a '61 thats bolted not welded has been replaced???? If it has split rim wheels get rid of them, let the air out 1st. They killed and maimed many when they were new. They HAVE blow off just sitting still, they were inflated in a steel cage for a reason. At this age these are an accident waiting to happen. Yea I'm a real tight *** on these. Had a friends uncle decapitated by one And an employee in our families shop loose most of a hand to one, and he was using the cage.
