I simply can't imagine the weight of a d/w, but I suppose those who have had the large luxury mohos are used to such. Since we have moved up from tent camping, a sink is a pure luxury to me.
We are pretty conservative with our cooking and attending mess while camping. When I can, I precook many meals that can be just heated up. Sometimes I revert to the old outside kitchen clean up when there is a campfire. But this is what I do when we clean up inside:
I found two plastic tubs that fit in each of the sink sides.
First: and most important...the dog is our prewash cycle. (If you think that is disgusting, you don't have a dog.) Takes care of much of the debris from the get go.
Next, I about 2 cups of very hot soapy water into one tub. Wash dishes and put into the other tub.
Finally, I rinse with very hot water, using the least amount possible.
I found that the tubs just fit into the microwave. I save the rinse water for the next session, heat it up, add soap and use it for the next wash load.
Works for us.

having just installed one of the 'mini' dishwashers in a '26 overlander, i can honestly say, they aren't really that heavy. they're the width of a large microwave. we got it because of the water saving, the easy cleanup (no standing around at the mini-sink) and the COOL factor
part of the reason we went for the dishwasher was because we're renovating our trailer with the idea of fulltiming in it, so things that WOULD be a luxury while camping, are things that we would want for living.
Both. Unless you fulltime, it's called camping. Roughing it is part of what it's all about IMHO.

I've seen your AS and mine, even without hook-ups, we are hardly roughing it. But I do agree w/ the thought behind the difference between "weekenders/vacationers" and "fulltimers".
...a waste of natural resources (trees) and more waste for our landfills toghether with added carbon emissions when burning them especially for who still enjoys using those styrofoam ones which take 100's of years to dissolve!!

ummmm... silly. What you could put into an RV dishwaher could be washed by hand, (one side of sink full of hot water, other side rinse) using much less water/energy and could be done in 10 mins. or less. I doubt that an RV dishwasher would be as efficient as a residential one (unless you're driving a 40-45' Prevost) so chances are, you'd have to initially rinse before putting them into the washer and maybe even do a bit of hand-toweling when emptying it. Always though camping was aimed at slowing things down and taking time to 'smell the roses' as it were...

Yea, as I typed that, I was thinking, in any RV it's not really roughing it, I suppose I should have said something a bit more directed at luxo items, though, A/C, oven, vents, stereo, etc could also be consider luxo items, bottom line, when I need to put a dishwasher in my Airstream, or a washer, dryer, hot tub, etc, it's time to get out of RVing and start to go back to hotels and resorts.
However, to each their own.

What ever makes RV'ing FUN and the trips a vacation is worth doing.
When I started Airstreaming, my eyes changed and I started noticing how many people have campers, trailers, and even mohos sitting out under a tree that are growing moss... It's shocking really. And most of these places look like lack of money is NOT the reason the trailer has turned into "lawn art".
I can't help but think that most of the time it has to be because people find that the maintenance, packing/unpacking, and labor ON the road has turned them back to planes and hotels.
As a fulltimer I find that vacuuming the whole house in 7 minutes (including the fan screens and A/C filters) means LESS work than living in a house. But if I had to maintain a house AND an Airstream, the Airstream might become just more work for me - (Naw, I'd ditch the house again!).

My ideal camp dishwashing set up: cobble beach "frontyard" on Lake Superior, picnic table, cold Corona, two granite tubs, one full of hot soapy water, one full of hot rinse water (both with dash of Clorox), towels for draining/drying, all the time in the world to savor the chilly lake air, warm sun, lighthouse and breakwater in view, cries of gulls, aroma of campfires, background music of kids, grandkids, and dogs. . . Well, with this surrounding, who wouldn't love doing the dishes? ~G
