Central Vacuum Cleaner

Hi all,

I have a 1984 34' Limited that has the original central vacuum system by Intervac. I have an old card from the package the vacuum cleaner bags came in and I have tried searching online and by phone with no luck.

Does anyone happen to know where you can get these bags, or even something comparable that will work with this unit?

Sandi there is a replacement or so I have read somewhere on one of the forums. Could have been over at the VAC-list (now the VAL-list). I think I saved it and will be glad to look. If I find it I will post it back here.
I do not know which model year it referred to. Nor do I know if all the central units were the same manufacturer as you posted.

I think the bag was a Shop-Vac but I will try to find for sure if someone else does not find it first.

I have a central unit in my 74 but have not even plugged it in. I did clean it out and had actually forgotten it. I don't have any hose nor accesories for it and it is way down on my priority list right now.

Found it quicker than I could have imagined. Hope it fits. Please post back and let all know.

On closer inspection I find this is not a bag but a filter. Perhaps you can use it as a starting point if inded it is even remotely from a similar machine. Sorry to pique your hopes if this is all wet.

For all those who have been tormented by not knowing exactly what filter
will replace the extinct original in a mid-70's "industrial hangup" central
vacuum filter found in some of the larger models of that era, I have found
it. Apparently, Shop Vac corporation was responsible for the manufacture of
these machines for Airstream in some way, and the original part number
(listed in my A/S Service Manual) for the filter was 915-01. Shop Vac tells
me it was superseded years ago by part number 903-19. Nobody (but nobody)
seems to have them in stock except Shop Vac. They are $10.70 apiece if you

Thanks and I would appreciate it if you don't mind looking. I searched on this forum and didn't find anything. And maybe I'm just not a very good 'searcher'.

Mine works great and I actually think you can use it without the bag but the bag would just be so much less mess.

I'm back already!

I checked that out and believe it or not, I hadn't even thought about the filter. I am going to go out and check my unit and see if I need one of those too, but what I was looking for is the actual bag that goes in an oval shaped brown thing that hooks between the metal tubes and the long flexible hose that actually collects the dirt in it. It has a lid on it about the size of a salad plate that twists on and off and I believe you can just open this and dump the dirt from there or put a bag in there to collect the dirt. The bag is what I am actually looking for but thanks for the filter info.

Another Success Story for the Airstream Forums! This tread helped me find the correct replacement filter for my central vacuum system. Thanks to the contributors of this thread. Now on to my next Airstream challenge...Hootie Hoo!

Does anyone know if the central vacuum system is still available as an optional accessory on new units? I know in the '50's you could buy "Airstream" branded canister vacuums with your coach. We were thinking of getting one of the Shark vacs with the hose attachments or something similar but would like a central unit if they are still available.

I have in my possession a vac bag out of a 70's era AS. It is very small and in fragile condition. Made of thin "tissue" paper with a cardboard ring at one end.
The ring is 3 inches in Outside Diameter.2.25 inches Inside Diameter.
The other end of bag is pleated and obviously expands when in use.

The tissue bag is surrounded with a cardboard cartridge (cone) with instructions printed on one side (white wording against blue background). This cartridge is removed and discarded after installing the bag.
Inside the cone is printed the following;
"For best performance use Tevis Campbell disposable filters."
I guess they call a filter, what I call a bag! ??????
Maybe this bag/filter nomenclature addresses what Jaco was puzzled over above.

If I ever become proficient I'll post a picture here. That is reason I have hung on to the bag (filter). That may be a while.

Maybe one of you forum detectives can trace that company which is probably long long gone. But you never know.

Don't know who made the actual vacuum that the little bags went into. Prob another long gone vendor.
Sure dont look like they hold much dirt. But hey ...Life was much cleaner back then...I guess.
