Central vacuum? anyone done this?

I was at Sears and found a 5 hp oval shop vac. with all the attachments. It uses standard
vac accessories. It will live in the closet I also picked up a 25' hose.

Gee if the Tahoe needs to be vacuumed I can take it out of the closet.

The best part is it only cost $79

I have a 1977 Excella with factory central vac. And is mounted under bath room sink counter, open trap door under sink counter plug in vac hose turn on switch on bath room wall, access to canister thru outside rear door. houndjfp

We had added central vac to our Cutter. We are now in the final stages of a shell off complete remodel of our '68 Tradewind. We will either add a central vac again or get the cordless Dyson. We really like the central vac. I believe we can fit it in the Tradewind without loosing too much. We had a Dirt Devil, but I see some other suggestions in this thread. Any new one's that we should consider?

We are putting a central vac into our Excella. Research led us to the Intervac brand. We will let you know how we like it after it is in!

We're comparing function and price. The Dyson DC35 is about the same price but is light weight, compact and cordless. This might win out over the central vac for us.

I have installed three central units myself. Two in our homes and one for a friend. With a central unit mounted in the middle of the RV and the standard 30' hose you could vacuum a 50' RV. Seems to me that a central unit plus hose and attachments would take up a lot of storage space. I have been considering the Dyson cordless upright, but my wife still likes the broom, brush and dust pan. as all us husbands know, if momma aint happy, aint nobody happy.

Our trailer is too small for central vac ,but we do carry a shop vac that can be used by our 600watt inverter when boondocking ,it's also great to clean the truck up and it's wet dry vac, and very affordable at $39 dollars, I like the dyson dc 35 but it only runs for 15 minutes and takes 3.5 hours to charge,it's ok in the trailer but I cannot vacuum the truck and trailer back to back.

We installed a vac pan in our Excella. It is part of the central vac. It works like a built-in dust pan-- a covered opening in the tie kick---you sweep into it and all the dust and dirt go into the central vac.

I put a vac pan in the first house install I did and it was a very nice feature.

Rich; I like the Vroom design, might consider one of those for my house and cat litter tracking issues. It could be a better fit than my Intervac in post 33, but the long hose covers the entire moho, and it has lots of power.

Seems to me that every Airstream we own I install a Dirt Devil central vac unit to it. With the dog it makes clean up an excellent job. In our 2005 Classic Limited 34' S/O I mounted the unit underneath the wardrobe cabinet next to the water pump with the outlet facing the hallway, it's in the middle of the trailer and makes it easy so you don't have to stretch the hose to it's extreme end. The accessories are stored in the cubby in the floor of the wardrobe. Our 390XL was a more difficult install. Because of the length I wanted two outlets, one for the bedroom, and one for the living room, this was acheived by mounting the Dirt Devil unit in the basement c/s next to the water pump access door and running the hard plastic PVCl iines fore and aft. The bedroom line runs through the c/s wheel well and up through the rear furnace compartment, the front outlet runs through the basement ceiling up into the refrigerator compartment facing forward near the dinette. The 325LE was a little more simple, only one outlet was required so the Dirt Devil (agian) unit was mounted on the ceiling of the R/S rear exterior compartment with the hard plastic lines routed through underneath the false floor of the bedroom wardrobe cabinet into the hallway just behind the shower. If anyone is interested in pictures let me know. My 4th install will be soon as we are picking up our new to us 2007 396XL from Bill Thomas next week.

We have a Dyson DC35 in the house, we pack it into the airstream when we travel, breaks down and stores easily in the closet.

I would love to have one full time in the airstream, but it is a big ticket item!

When we get home, I drag in the big Dyson for the mega clean up jobs

Had a vac in my 1975 35 ft class A Moho. 20 ft. Hose needs more space than the vac. We use a Oreck 110 volt handheld and took it the hole house vac.
