We have the Dometic installed on our 96 34' front kitchen - there was a perfect space below the closet. The factory had installed a door that covered an access area for the heat ducts. We built a vacuum tool storage adjacent to the vacuum.
We also have experience with the Dirt Devil - this one has a bit more powerful motor. It works quite well. We like the on-off switch as opposed to the style on the Dirt Devil, which is similar to household central vacs in that you open the input cover & the vacuum turns on.
Only problem - the cover for the hose input broke off.
Don't let my wife know about these things...she already vacuums the Airstream at least once a day. You'd think she'd remember she is on vacation. Of course we do have two boys and a cocker spaniel to deal with, plus most of our trips are to sandy Florida.

Minnie's Mate, Your wife is not the only one; I vacuum once a day. We travel with our cat and dog.....need I say more. The dog doesn't shed but Max does
I really like the idea of a central vac....RVUpgrades, I shall look into. My DirtDevil feather lite is still working. It was cheap...$35 at Best Buy.
The reason I vacuum every day is because I want the carpeting to last as long as possible. After carpeting, I am going to some sorta plank and throw rugs.

Central Vac... hummmm.... once had a home with a central vac system. Didn't like it much. Too much hose to haul around and plug in, not enough suction. I quit using it and went to my old Kirby upright...
How about an alternative for the AS? I have a Roomba now at home and really like the little thing. Maybe they make Roomba mini's? Certainly wouldn't take up much room... but with my trailer I can clean the floor with a papertowel...
Well, I have to agree that the grit does get under my skin but there are days that my wife vacuums two or three times, sometimes more often. It sometimes gets under my skin to hear the vacuum so much!
I think we have a Shark upright now. Of course that may have been the first one we had. The first one didn't last very long, whatever it was. I had thought about a central vac for the Airstream, too, but figured there wasn't a really good place to mount one and thought the hose would take up too much valuable real estate. I guess if it is centrally mounted, you would need half the hose, but finding that central location is the trick.

Having just installed cork flooring (and w/o the "natural" dirt trapping quality of the previous owners rose-colored carpet [original cut pile was actually quite a cool color]) we are looking at central vacs. I have no end of floor level storage space in the Streak for installation possibilities, and, with two adults and a cat full-timing, daily floor maintenance is a must. Will look at both the Dometic and Dirt Devil pieces. Anyone know of any others?
