I'm considering buying an '82 MH, but was told the windshield is cracked, mostly likely needing replacement. Does anyone know the ease of finding a replacement and the cost?
Thanks.
Also, although the tires allegedly have only 5000 miles on them, but they are 10 years old. Can they be safely driven? Apparently no noticeable cracks on them. The owner hasn't moved the thing in 2 years. I asked him to at leasdt change the fluids. He said he would.
windshields are available through airstream parts dealers, or directly.
I think you can expect to pay 700-900 per side installed. Long cracks can be fixed somewhat, I have a 12" crack shaped like an L in mine, that is due to be fixed by a local guy shortly. He gets 100 bucks or so to fill it, and said it would disappear about 70% from view, unless you look at an angle from below it.
It has not spread in the two years I have owned mine, so I am going to try that route first.
Tires may be cracked on the inside wher you can't see them, but I think if they were covered or the rig was stored indoors they might be in ok shape. There are also some products that prevent the UV deterioration of the tires, at least for a bit longer than unprotected.
Windshield repair is a strange animal. Some shops around here won't touch a windshield if the crack is more than the size of a quarter or less in some cases. There are some that will.
With a crack as you describe, I would tend to replace rather than repair. 70% sounds good, but only as good until you can see it.

I plan to post photos of mine when it is repaired, I have been slow to do it as other more pressing issues seem to somehow arise " out of the blue"...like my recent shower leak....

I wouldn't drive 10 year old tires any further than the nearest tire shop. We have a member of our club who bought a 345 that had been stored inside a warehouse for several years. Good looking old tires. They all blew out on him.

it is recommended that tires seven 7 years old be replaced. if you value your heart and soul. i have five tires that are 5 years old and look, like new two more years and you can have them. at $250 a pop it is hard to toss them . lol

At "$250 a pop" !!!!!!!!! is't that what we all are trying avoid. The pop!
