Wheels,tires

UWE, are you pleased with shorter height Goodyear tires?(225/75/15) I now have a set of Outlaw II,s and would like to put new tires on. By the way the spacing on the wheel lugs is 6lugs on a 5.5inch center. Thanks for your help. PJ

P.J.,
I am very pleased with the Marathons and their size so far. The 225 size in load range D is what I recommend. I think the difference in height is a non-issue when your axles are in good condition.
My trailer sits higher now with the Marathons and the new axles as before with the bias ply tires and old axles.
You willl like the reduced weight of the outlaws and the marathons as opposed to the steel wheels with the bias ply tires.
One thing, see if you can find center caps with a lid, so you can see your hubs without removing the wheels first. My center caps install through the rear of the wheel, which I wish was not the case.
Also, make sure and re-torque the wheels after driving for a few miles.

P.J.,
No, I have not made it out to Inland yet to get this done.
I had the tire store do a spin balance on them. The wheel/tire is in balance now, which should help somewhat. This puts me in the same spot as the new trailers, I guess.
When I get a chance over this Winter, I will have Andy balance the hubs and wheels as a unit.

Does anyone know the load rating of the 15" Outlaw II?

outlaw II load

The load rating is said to be 2 thousand lbs. I have personally used them on about 10 different vehicles, including car hauling trailers and trucks. The trailers were tandem axle and weighed in at over 6,000 lbs. Never had a problem. I can't immagine the ones made in China could exceed the ones made in the USA, by a manufactor who has been in business for 40yrs that I know of. I now have American alum. wheels on 4 vehicles. PJ

New Wheels

Well I up and did it. I put Outlaw II wheels and Goodyear 225/75/15 Marathon radials on my 68 Ambassador A/S. Boy did it improve the looks. Had a little problem putting them on ,(clearance) until one of the techs at the Goodyear store said to let the air to get them in the wheel well.It worked. Thank you UWE for your reply to my size question. PJ

Load Rating:
The sample wheel at the dealer I purchased the wheels at had 2 ratings:
2000lbs, and 2400lbs trailering
The wheels i received, identical part number etc, had only the 2000lb rating stamped in it.
Clearance:
Had a similar problem with the old axles. Very tight to get between the wheel hub and the body.
With my new axles, they slip right in, with only minimal rubbing.
btw, the old wheels and tires were also tight, difficult to remove from the traielr, and difficult to get back in place. This was compounded by the 60lb weight of the old wheels.
The new wheels definitely do improve the look dramatically.
