Ken
I found your post on HD awnings I need to replace the fabric on our 20'10" Zipdee I have seen differant posts about awning replacement about with the slat or without, would the fabric fit our awning? I have not got ours pulled out to see how it is attached, from what I have found out is that you can break some of the roller geting it apart.Us new folks asksome of the dumb questioms don't we?.
Gene
smily,
I'm not sure if I still have the insert from my bedroom window awning but,....if I do, you can have it.
Let me look around for it..(to tell you the truth, I gota ask the better half...lol)
She's better at remembering where things are...
BTW,
Gene Wissink: I haven't replaced my fabric yet but, I have torn the "roller" apart. It's no big deal, really..Just drill out the three rivets and remove the end inserts. If you go to their website, you'll find all the picture diagrams, spec, etc for repairing the awning. The inserts appears to be the same for all of them~! Just the diameter is the big differences~The only thing that you could break is the retainer pin holding the spring in place..Replacing that is a 2 min job, at BEST..
If you need any help or encouragement..get in touch.
I have replaced the fabric on two of the three awnings and made wheel skirts for both sides, ( tandem axle), with a plain old singer sewing machine.
All material cost 150 dollars ordered from Outdoor fabrics.com 14.95 a linear yard. Pacific Blue Fancy
Zip Dee wants 13+ dollars a Linear foot for window awnings, (fabric only) and even more for a main awning. 16 foot window awning on street side = $208, 4 foot awning on bathroom = $52 Wheel skirts 2' x 6' = $156 total cost from Zip Dee = $416 before shipping costs. so I figure about 450+ dollars if I paid Zip Dee. I spent 150 dollars
They look great if I dont say so myself.
I am reinstalling the Awnings this week and I will post photos soon.
The one thing about Zip Dee awnings is that they are all riveted together including the Fabric to the tube. Other brands will use a retention strip or cord within the tube. I am not certain that I like the rivet concept but it is Zip Dee.
If you do replace awning fabric only, I recommend that you purchase a new Aluminum strip for the cover. You only need purchase the strip that holds the fabric. (one section). I actually re-used the old one but it was a job getting the "crimps" bent out so I could get the old fabric out.
I am looking for a Aluminum cover for the Rear bath window. All four sections so if anybody has some I will pay.
Did any body watch that 4 foot window awning go on EBAY? sold for about 170 dollars. USED! I paid 100 + 90 including shipping from Washington state for a 16 footer.

The strip on the trailer is only about 3/4 inch wide with screw holes. It does have a tunnel that retains the fabric cord or it would even retain the Aluminum strip that comes with the Zip Dee awnings, (the awning on the back of my trailer is not Zip Dee),
If you go to the Zip Dee site, there is a section that shows the parts of the Awning and you will see the aluminum strip that I am talking about. It is about 1 1/4 inch wide and it has a pin on one side and it has a tunnel on the opposite side to retain the fabric cord. The pin inserts into the next aluminum strip, creating a hinge. There are at least four aluminum strips on the Zip Dee Alumigard that are hinged to create the wrap.
I will take some photos and post in the coming days.

Just an "a ha!" Ken, when you mentioned "got used from Wa State," I immediately thought of Singleton's. Great place, if a little out of the way. I drove out there myselft for a used lock (only one in the nation that I could find at the time). Great people, such the boneyard of stuff. Great awning, good sewing job!
