Smile Dometic Refrigerator Parts

I have a used Dometic frig RM 3807. I recently replaced the whole unit because the cooling unit failed. However, the burner assembly, power module, doors, etc. are in great shape. If anyone is in need of any of these items I would sell cheap. I would sell the whole frig for $150.00.

Unhappy refer failure

I too had a recent domestic cooler failure on a 92 in my classic le 350. I was wondering if you could point to any cause. I am experiencing guilt over possibly having cause the failure by doing a startup when the rig was not level. Anything to it? Did you smell ammonia?

dbyar,

FWIW
Your refer is new enough that you should be able to get just the cooling unit replaced. there is a place in CA that specializes in this type of thing.

Normally un-level startup will not kill a refer unless it was ready to go anyhow.

Thenewkid,

Thanks for the word on un level start up I feel much better.

Have any idea what the place in CA is called?

I was advised that a rebuilt cooling/coils will be more repairs down the line. I wonder if Domestic supplies new units to any repair places? I will call them and find out.

Your refer was even newer, was there a warranty? What did you have to pay for it? I hear they run $900.

Here is the link

You will have to either get your rig there or get your refer there as they will not ship.

I replaced mine as I had much frame rust, and the refer needed new door seals and I was certain the board was original. I spent close to 1200 bucks for a new one with a 3 year warranty. The repaired ones run 1/3 the cost.

Almost all of the units supplied to repair places come from a rebuilder. The section that is damaged is replaced with a whole new section and redone to as good as or better than new.

Good luck

Lightbulb

Thenewkid,

That's cool (pun intended).

I would like to save this refer as the rest of it is in A1 condition.

I had looked at this web site before and learned a bit. I lost track of their name. Fortunately, I will be able to get the rig up there, I recognize the area code very well.

Thanks again.

Thumbs up Dometic Refrigerator

With regard to the failure of your frig, I don't think running it while not level caused the failure. I have read that running the unit while not level will cause decreased cooling. My frig was working one trip, then the next time (about a month later) I opened up the door and smelled amonia and the frig would not cool. I was told by several people that when one smells amonia the frig is dead. The choices are to rebuild the unit or replace the unit. Rebuilding was nearly as costly (100.00 less) and less warranty. I opted to buy a new unit. At first I could not find anyone to ship to my residence, but eventually found Campers Choice at 1-800-833-6713 or www.camperschoice.com. They shipped a new Dometic RM 2820 to my residence for a $25 dollar shipping fee, the total cost was 1165. Also, no sales tax since Campers Choice is in Alabama and I live in TX. I found the right repalcement model number via a chart at the website www.rvmobile.com. I opted to install the unit myself and as of yesterday I completed the job and it works great. The toughtest part is removing the old unit and getting the new one inside. After that it was a piece of cake. If you decide to do this yourself don't forget to disconnect your electric and gas and tape your DC wires so they won't spark. I saved about 300 dollars by ordering the unit myself and installing myself. Since I don't live in my RV I had the luxury of installing the frig at my own pace.
