Cap for water tank

Howdy--

Does anyone have an idea as to where I might find an original cap for the fresh water tank? I left mine at a campground in Canada, darn it. This is for a 1968 Caravel...the neck of the tank is at the front of the trailer, fairly near the propane bottles. It's a threaded cap, and appears to be a cast material...could be aluminum, I suppose, but felt a bit heavy, to me, for aluminum.

I know I can get something that will work from Home Depot, but I'm interested in finding an original, if possible.

Thanks,

Richard

Welcome to the Forum Richard!

It would be most helpful if you "filled in the blanks" on your profile so we know what model Airstream you have...also your location to direct you to appropriate salvage yards.

BTW we found a replacement water cap for our '64 GlobeTrotter on ebay several months ago...keep an eye out, they do come up occasionally.

Did you try calling the campground? They might have it in their lost and found. I know if I found something like that, I'd turn it in to the office.

Water tank cap

Well, it's a 1968 Caravel, 17 ft., with the water tank opening (neck) at the front of the trailer-- on the right side as you face it. I'm just trying to locate a replacement cap.

I did leave a note at the Forest Service kiosk (no-one was there when we checked out)...describing the cap, my address, etc. etc. but haven't heard anything. I may have left it on top of the nearest propane bottle, in which case it could have fallen off somewhere down the road.

As far as any other particulars, I live in the Delta/Cedaredge area of Colorado...on the western slope. I saw a recently polished older Bambi in town the other day...in perfect condition. Really beautiful. But we love this Caravel. It's in excellent shape (except for the missing water tank cap).

I'll keep checking e-Bay....

fresh water fill cap

my airstream is a 1967 airstream tradewind 24' 11" and the fresh water tank was up front ( tongue area ) and the fill cap ( goose neck and all ) came thru to the outside on the driver's side ( of the trailer ) , and i will not be needing it , as i have a much better way to fill the fresh water tank than airstream has or had , if you want it come on by and pick it up , ready to go , out

hello boardsander,

what is the method you allude to, for filling your water tank?

you've got me interested, since i never could understand why that cap didn't have a lock. it just beckons for someone to either take your fresh water, or pour some unkown substance in.

Cap for water tank

Hi Boardsander--

Many thanks for you reply. I would be very interested in purchasing that screw cap to your water tank-- that's all I need, just the screw cap. Any chance I could purchase it from you, along with a shipping and handling charge, and you could mail it to me in a padded envelope? I live in Delta, Colorado. My e-mail address is: grandmesavineyards@earthlink.net If you'll e-mail me I can make arrangements for payment....

Gracias,

Richard

fresh water fill cap

ok tomorrow i'll with my wifes help get it prepared to send to you , most likely ups , e-mail comeing your way soon , as to my better way , since i've gutted mine and i'll be reworking my plumbing , i'll simply leave my fresh water tank and pump up front as they were and ( of course i'll use kitec for my water supply lines ) i'll run a line to the rear of the airstream with a ball valve on the water line and to the ball valve attach a water hose fitting , and fill from the rear , nice and secure , all for now out

I'll take the neck

Hey Boardsander-if he only needs the cap-I'll buy the neck from you.I have been trying to get the cap off of mine and it's frozen good.I took the assembly out and tried 2 pipewrenches and cracked the neck!
Maybe with your neck,I can cut mine and salvage the cap. PM me .BTW what will you do about the hole in the front of you trailer?
