Question Airstream 310 MH Dinette

Hello,

I am currently considering purchasing a mid-80's Airstream 310 motorhome. The unit is setup pretty much exactly like what we are looking for except that it only sleeps four and we have five (3 kids).

I have looked at several of these units now (310's and 280's) and some of them have swivel chairs accross from the pull-out sofa-bed while others have a small dinette that can convert into a bed for a child. The one I am thinking about getting does not have the small dinette.

Does anyone know where I could get this small dinette to replace the swivel chairs and how much such an item might cost? I would like to find this out before we decide to purchase the unit.

Thanks!

Take a look at what was done to an Argosy MH. This would get you one more bed.

Yes, that is exactly what I am looking for. Is such a dinette available from 3rd party sources or does it have to be Airstream?

The web site I linked you to is a place in Florida that does tons of interior customizing. The mostly do GMC work, but handle the ocattional Airstream. I would call them and see if they would be willing to ship it to you.

This may seem odd but have you thought about a 270?

The 270's have two couches that fold out (4) and a dinette that breaks down (1) for a total sleeping capacity of 5. You do lose the rear bedroom but some folks don't mind. See the photos on my site.

another option to consider-- you can search the RV surplus sites to fond a used dinette/bed combo from a wrecked rv. if it works youwould have to recover the seats to match your interior. Thee have been some aorund in the past.

Still another option -

I took an interior hollow core door that I bought from Lowe's and cut it down (you have to move the end plug in order to retain the rigidity) so that it would fit between the driver and passenger seats when they are positioned facing each other. Then I padded it with a double layer of egg crate foam and covered it with $2 worth of upholstery fabric from the remnants bin at Wal-Mart. It will not work for someone taller than about 5'6 but my 5'2" daughter likes it.

I don't have a picture handy or I would show how it looks.

If you got a rear twin you might be able to put a Bunk over one of the twins. Upgrade the pull out to better cushions for Mom and Pop.

Advantage:

When it's time for the kids to go to bed you can close the door and still use the living area.

Marine outlets could be a source too.

Thanks for all the great feedback. It sounds like getting a unit with the chairs rather than the dinette should not be an issue.

As far as the 280's are concerned, I have seen them setup to sleep five with the dinette just like the 310's. In fact, I plan to look at one next weekend.

I would like a 280 or 310 but just need to find the right one. A 345 would be an option as well. They all have a larger dinette I think and they sleep 6.

Only the ads say a 345 will sleep six. You can get two toddlers in the dinette (or one non-toddler). 5 is a more reasonable number if you want comfort. We are 4 and 2 dogs and the 345 fits us nicely.
