Penguin or BayBreeze?

As Dometic Penguin are a relatively recent AC unit, I assume you are really looking for an Armstrong BayBreeze unit. Those were used for 20 years or so. The design was exclusive to A/S. Remarkable units, super quiet, reliable and would cool even the largest A/S with no problems. Unfortunately Armstrong is long since out of business. In years past, many folks just trashed the BayBreeze when problems developed and that was unfortunate as everything on the units was repairable or replaceable. More recently, those still fortunate enough to have an original BayBreeze are making the effort to have them repaired. Good luck in find one as trashed ones are long gone and the remainder are still sitting atop vintage A/Ss.

If on the other hand, you really want a Penguin, they are readily available and blend nicely with the exterior of any A/S.

Thanks for the answer, it is a Penguin, the trailer was overhauled and a new unit Dometic installed in 1995, I think I can still find the parts, at least I hope so!!

Unhappy 1995 Dometic Penguin A/C Control Panel

Hello,
I just bought a vintage airstream 1969 Sovereign trailor and it has the
Duo-Therm Penguin model air-conditioner on it,1995 model. The trailor was badly stored
in Michigan and rats made their nests in the inside cowl, ate up the wiring
on the control panel and probably urinated on the panel itself since all
the controls are rusted !!
The biggest problem as that I live in France and I dont have a
dealer anywhere around here !! The reference# on the control panel board in 5054.I was wondering if any of you guys out there would have this in their salvage??
Thanks,

Saigon

Contact Dometic

Saigon,
I would contact dometic (www.dometic.com) with the model # for the Penguin as well as the part# on the existing control board. The newer Penguins have changed to totally manual controls or as an optional upgrade, have fully automatic controls that are wall mounted rather than being on the AC unit itself. Dometic should be able to send you a replacement control panel as your unit is less than 10years old and most manufacturers typically carry replacement parts for at least a 10 year period.

Control Panel

Thanks David,
I did find a part at rvdealership.com but their diagrams are not clear so I will have to e-mail for more details, they do have a huge list of A/C's so they must have the part.
This 69'er is in great shape and it cost me a bunch of $$ to get it here,I wan't everything to work correctly!
thanks for your help,
Saigon

I have a complete non working Penguin that I removed from my Overlander in 2003. It is of all metal construction. Circa 70's. My overlander did not come with A/C and this was added after delivery.

AZ RV Salvage is an awesome place! That's where I bought my new/used unit for my Overlander. Took out the old penguin and installed a newer one. Save about 75# from the old one. And given AZ RV Salvage is 10 miles away that makes it a bonus for me when I want to "shop" a little.
