Peter, I haven't updated you all because we're still trying to work out the problem. Just got off the phone with the repair shop. Per Airstream, they tried replacing a fuse for the furnace, but it blew. So, now they know that the problem is the furnace, not the wiring as they thought. Now we are waiting for Atwood to get back to them to see what to do and how it will be covered. Thanks for staying in touch.

Bonnie

Thanks Bonnie, so the batteries checked out OK? No rush, but I am curious to hear what happened, as I have a new trailer with issues like new batteries to be considered next year. You also had some fridge problems I believe, and the batteries did seem to be a possible common link for this too.

Thanks,

Peter

The batteries were run down, but were fine once recharged. I think the fridge was 'operator error.' It's working fine now. After going back and forth with Airstream and Atwood, looking at the blower motor and then the wiring, the repair shop seems to have concluded that it is the blower motor.

According to Debbie at Affinity RV, who has been taking care of the details, Airstream has said they will cover the initial labor. Atwood, the furnace manufacturer, said the warranty is not extended to second owners, but they will cover it this time. I was dissapointed to hear that since I assumed that the warranty transferred to us covered everything.

Atwood said they would send a new blower motor in 2 or 3 days, which means the repair shop might not get it until Monday. So we may or may not have it back by Christmas.

Thanks for the update. Good to know the batteries are OK. Any chance low battery voltage caused the blower motor to burn out early? Bet Atwood is thinking that, but good of them to cover some part of the total.

Merry Christmas!

Peter

No one has mentioned to us that the low battery caused the problem, but Atwood told the repair shop that the blower motor is a known problem.

Finally, the end of the story, sort of...

So, dear friends, it turned out that after sending the wrong part and leaving everyone hanging, Atwood closes their plant for 2 weeks over the holidays. It seems like it would have been an easy thing to tell us (or the repair shop). Does their left hand not know when their right hand is closed?! Once the plant was reopened and the correct part was sent (sometime after the 1st of January), the repair shop had it fixed in 2 hours.

The furnace is now working quite well and we are toasty warm.

The End,
Bonnie

Wow, that took awhile, is it OK to say 7 weeks.
Glad it is working, troubleshoot often seems like a lost art anymore.
Now you will be good for many years to come.
