TR21-12 compressor fan problem

I have the above A/C fitted to my '73 Overlander which has been working great until today. The fan on the compressor runs for about 20 seconds then there is a click and it slows down before speeding up again. Any ideas guys?

On ours, the spacer shim under the armature had worn out, and allowed it to drop out of alignment. The fan slowed down almost to a stop, then it shut down from high head pressure. I made a new shim out of an aluminum washer.

Ok thanks. I think something is triggering a solenoid which reduces the fan speed and then it starts speeding up again.
