Therm'x catalytic heater

Our trailer has the model Caravan Mark II A unit. Is there any information still available on this heater? Are they still made?

I have one too, and have the same question you do Joshua. I can't seem to find them around anymore, and would like to find one just like it to replace the old one I have. It's 38 years old in a '73 Excella 500. Anyway, hope we can get someone to give us some information. Sorry I couldn't help you. JO

I think, but am not sure ,that Thermix turned into the company that makes the heaters that are still available today.

I do have the info that came with the original Thermix in one of my trailers. It was only a small card with lighting instructions and little else.

Will see if I can find it.
They cost about $80 back in the early 70's

I've got one of those Therm X's in my 78 Sov and I assumed it was because the furnace failed and the PO installed it. Perhaps it's just supplemental instead?

Back in the 70's most of the owners I knew would install the thermix heater because more hook up free camping was done back then and you couldn't get through a 3 day rally in the fall with the furnace blower eating up the battery.
Usually the thermix 6000 btu was good to about 40 degrees.

The logic is still valid. What has changed is most unit rallies seem to be in more developed places and you see fewer of these catylitic heaters

I do hope they're still making them somewhere, under a different name perhaps? I heard the company that made them in Canada went out of business. Guess the product they made was too good and never broke down, or there wasn't enough demand or they sold them too cheaply?

$80 BUCKS in the 70's! Wow! Those were the good old days, weren't they? They probably would run around $250 - 300 now!

Mine is still working. So is my Armstrong AC.

I find them useful for those in between seasons on chilly nights. Mine is good all the way down into the 20's if there's no wind. Anyway, would appreciate information on how to go about getting one, either new or nearly new salvage would do if the heater still has a warranty that it works.

I don't want anything new in my Airstream. The new ones aren't as good, and I want to retain much of the original equipment in this vintage trailer as much as is possible.
