my Suburban furnace thermostat was corroded. I replaced it with the round Honeywell style, set up for 2 wire connection. I wired it using the r and g terminals , and it seems to be ok, but I am checking if anyone else can confirmn this. The furnace comes on then goes off, but it is still quite warm here so I can't tell if its acting right or what.

I guess I wouldn't use a round Honeywell style thermostat. They operate with a mercury switch. They're fine in a house, where everything is nice and level and doesn't move.

In a RV, where the attitude can change just by walking from front to back, I would either use a digital thermostat, or an old non-mercury thermostat.

I just replaced the furnace in my '59 and have an original thermostat I can send you. Send me your address and I will shoot it out to you.

In the meantime, I think you can safely use the Honeywell, it just might act a little schizoid.

Ken,

I put in a Penguin AC with the "Comfort Control Center". It's a digital thermostat that controls the AC, heat strip in the AC, and any furnace you want to hook up to it. It can also do zone control, but in a 24' Tradewind, I think I just have one zone.

The furnace is a Suburban SF model.

sheesh, did n0t think about the mercury....at least it was only 20 bucks.On sale....Walmart.

In the AC mode, does the Penguin with CCC have a continuosly running fan, or will the fan cycle on and off as the CCC calls for more cool?

Some home style thermostats cannot be shut off completely , they go down to about 50 deg and that's it . In a trailer there may be times you want the furnace off and still have propane on to run the frig or stove . Not sure of the one you have .

I just bought an electronic unit for my house today from Home Depot, cost $28, heat and cool, and it is programmable.

I believe it shuts off; I know the in heat strip mode the fan shuts off once temperature is achieved. I've only run the AC once since I put it in. I'll check it again tomorrow and post back again if the fan doesn't shut off.

The CCC also has a 'Fan Only' mode with three speeds.

I use a mercury thermostat in my garage, where I keep the heat around 45 deg. Just mount the thermostat at about a 10 deg. angle out of plumb, and remember to subtract 20 degrees from the dial setting.
