Thermostat On/Off

77 Overlander,

For both the furnace and the A/C my service manual references an off/on switch on the thermostat. The thermostat is labeled suburban. A/C appears to be an Armstrong and I'm assuming the furnace is a Suburban as it appears to be original.

On my 73 there was a small toggle switch on the OEM furnace thermostat.There was a separate thermostat for the AC.

I saw another reference to another thermostat for the A/C but can't find it. The 'stat in my 5th wheel has switch for furnace on/off and fan speeds so I'm quite puzzled.

If it is the original Armstrong a/c, the thermostat for it should be on the streetside, usually on the wall near the fridge. There is an on/off switch, along with fan speed settings on the base of the a/c unit itself.
If it is a replacement a/c chances are good there is no longer a separate thermostat for it.

Thanks - the overhead switch on the fan is 3 speeds plus on/off. So if there's no thermostat what the dickens is controlling temperature - just the fan speed?
