thermostat for my '74 Tradewind

I have a thermostat which works only the AC. It has gone bad and now needs replacing. Where can I find a replacement? It is a two speed.

I also noticed another thread that mentioned being able to set up the thermostat so that the ac unit will cycle on and off as the temperature is met rather than running all the time. How do you make this arrangement, and is there any harm mechanically to the system by doing this. I like the idea of the cycling especially at night when the temperature cools down and only needs adjusting on occasion.

I recently followed the post below and converted my a/c and furnace to 1 home digital thermostat (the a/c cycles on and off to please thermostat setting)in a couple of hours. The only difficulty I experienced was determining which 110v feed wire to splice the relay into as I have a penguin a/c unit.

thermostat

I found one that had the same face size and set up, fished the sensor bulb through the existing tube. I never could find anyone to repair the old one. let me know if you need a link.

thermostat

sorry I see you were referring to the AC thermostat not the control panel. I found a thread in airstream forums that told you how to use a battery powered off the shelf thermostat and have the two fan speeds as well as the ability to have an auto setting which would turn on the AC only as called for to maintain the temp setting. Something that most people said could not be achieved.

My old themostat had three connecting wires...one red, one green and one brown. I believe the brown one goes tto the 12 vol battery....any suggestions at what type and brand of thermostat I could use.

instructions and thermostat for better operation of Armstrong AC unit

you want to use a battery powered Honeywell thermostat.

go to this link to find how to set it up and wire it properly.

http://forum.rvusa.com/threads/rvp-t...ermostat.9209/

It worked perfectly. The Armstrong unit was built to be worked on and maintained. You can find comparable replacement parts though they take a bit of time to match up.

hope this clears it all up for you. Barry

model of thermostat

I used a Honeywell RTHL111 series which had heat and cool mode. I did not use the heat mode. I was also able to have a high and low setting for the fan.
