Taking a furnace out for extended servicing

Hi, I have a NT-30MA furnace in my 79 International that I'm thinking about removing and giving a complete overhall. During this time, I'd still like to supply gas to the rest of the trailer for hot water, fridge, oven, stove. Since there is no gas shutoff valve for the furnace that I know of, is there a way to cap the gas pipe that would normally go to the furnace during this time?

Take a look underneath the trailer...mine has shut off valves for the individual lines. If not you could add a shut off valve to the furnace line, pull the line and cap it at the T, or cap the line itself and test to make sure it is tight.

I would say if there isnt a shut off you should add one.

There should probably be shutoffs for each and every propane appliance. If there aren't, add them! (It's not very difficult to do, though I did have a devil of a time locating shutoff valves to purchase when I redid some of the line on our 67.)

Shut of the valve and add a flare cap to the exposed pipe when you do remove the unit. The cap will give you a 2nd plug and keep stuff from going down the pipe..

Hi wacnstac,

As Hi Ho said, use a flair cap or plug (it's usually a plug from my experience) to block the furnace line when you remove it (be sure that you turn off BOTH LP tanks before doing this ) so you can still have the LP flowing thru the rest of the trailer.

Also, remember........NO TEFLON TAPE OR PIPE DOPE is ever used in flair fittings and be sure to order a gasket kit for the burner access cover when you take it off. They are like a piece of paper and very brittle, and you'll need a new one if you remove it during your O/H.
