Suburban furance + Armstrong AC = 1 thermostat?
Hi guys! Sorry if this question has been answered before, I did several searches with inconclusive results. I just replaced my furnace in my '78 ambassador with a new replacement Suburban and I still have the original Armstrong AC. The AC unit has a knob that controls the fan speed but I believe I need a thermostat to activate the cooling itself. Can I combine the thermostats to work them both from one unit? I saw this one but it's a Dometic, so idk if that makes a difference. If this wouldn't work, does anyone have a recommendation for a compatible AC thermostat? Thanks for your input

ditto
And I thought I was the only one with this problem. My '76 has no a/c thermostat. Looking at the schematic I see where one could be wired in. I have no idea why Airstream did not install one.

My '74 Armstrong A/C unit has a knob you turn to set the cooling level. There is a scale from 0 to 7. The higher the number the cooler the temp.

Suburban furance + Armstrong AC = 1 thermostat?
On some units the thermostat is built into the a/c unit.
My 72 has a separate thermostat, the 75 has a built in thermostat, there is virtually no difference in the operation of the unit though.
I am reasonably sure that a remote thermostat could be wired in.

You can get a generic thermostat from Lowe's that will operate both of them but you need some knowledge of electrical wiring. You would also need a relay to turn the compressor on and off on the AC unit. A new digital thermostat will control the AC compressor relay when set to cool and the thermostat will control the furnace when set to heat.

Am I correct that my 1976 Armstrong's compressor runs all the time? It only has one switch; off, low, med., high.

It doesn't have a knob with a scale of 1-7?

That is probably the thermostat. It it stayed on 100% of the time it would freeze up.
