Mine has been silver since I bought it! I have no idea when it was done, but I like it. More unified.

Repainting the AC cover is on our list also. We have a crack in the shroud that needs to be repaired first, then plan to sand lightly and put down a layer or two of plastic primer. We're bouncing back and forth between silver and white for the finish coat. White is probably the best for efficiency -- reflects more -- and will match the white aluminum top. Silver would of course look great from the ground even though it would absorb more heat. I'm reminded of someone that recently posted about the almost immediate drop in interior temperature after painting the Airstream top white.

Either way, silver or white will look a lot better than tan!

Like this? I sanded and wased with water, let dry then sprayed with a good brand of spray paint and it's held up well. Now the propane tank cover is a different story. The textured fininsh didn't allow for a good sanding and the paint blew off in a driving rainstorm somewhere in Wyoming last year

We painted ours silver years ago using automotive silver paint followed up with automotive clear coat. We used spray cans. Just make sure you buy enough if you try this method.

I did mine and it puts it in "stealth" mode.
Very worthwhile in the looks dept and I doubt that the A/C notices the extra heat from the shroud not being white..........

I've been playing with the Rustoleum 'Universal' paint and the "Titanium Silver" is an 'aluminm bright'. I used it on the interior ABS panels around the front window and the stuff sticks to plastic like the 'correct' glue. I tried to scrap it off with my fingernail after it had dried for two days... and *no way*.

Exactly what I used, Ron.
Morning & evening light it appears a different tone than aluminum but during bright light it looks very good and blends in with the polished trailer.

They make plastic spray paints, that are designed to stick to plastic better than other paints. I would use one of those.

Universal is a plastic paint... and it seems just about everything else. Prep is easy, just soap and water and I've had good luck with it.

It two problem ahe that it's expensive ($8 for metallic at HD)and the cap / spray button is just odd. It tries to spray like a spray gun, but it sometimes has issue with popping off. Also, don't believe them about spraying upside down, it will for a moment but that's it.

I used hardware store spray paint on my 73 Armstrong. Initially it was a bit mottled but evened out over time. Had the trailer for about 5 years then sold it. It still looked good. I am thinking about doing the same on my new Dometic, but I am also thinking about painting my roof white. Then it would match.

Thumbs up Matching silver is great improvement and a MaxxAir cover

We've completed our fall maintenance and updates. These included patching a crack in our air conditioner shroud and painting it metallic silver. The original shroud was tan, and did not match either the white top nor silver sides of the Airstream. We used Valspar plastic primer (from Home Depot), Valspar metallic spray paint, and then a car paint clear coat.

Also added a MaxxAir II vent cover for the rear Fantastic fan. The moisture sensor was so sensitive that the slightest amount of dew would activate the auto-close mechanism during the night, then it would dry and open, then close, then open ... you get the idea. The MaxxAir limits the Fantastic vent travel slightly, so it must be opened manually.

Ron,
How about some pictures of the painted interior/caps?

I painted the stove vent and my propane tanks cover. I wish I had taken more pains with prep as mine is a bit rough and "mottled." If I were to do it again I'd sand well and use primer before the silver coat. That being said, it still looks 100% better than before.
