those units are showing up more and more. If you really want something special, search for DC high seer mini splits. They make almost zero noise outside, and can be as high as 23 seer. Seems like you could run them off of a 1000 watt generator the way they are rated. Also, since they have DC compressors, it also seems like you could figure out a way to run them off battery.
Anyway, they are set up in a way where you don't need special equipment to install them. If I ever get a trailer to gut, I'll probably instal one on my hitch. I think the neatest setup would be one of these on a hitch, stainless gas tanks underneath the trailer, and built in inverter generators. Basically, a motorhome that's a trailer. Run everything off electric, with flexible solar cells on top of the roof, and redone insulation.

Not to poo-poo the idea, because we have used a couple of these units in communications shelters at tower sites with success. But, the input voltage of units large enough to consider them for use in a trailer is usually 230/240 volts AC.
I did some research before we bought these, and theory of operation is neat.
Basically very similar to the way the inverter generators allow for lower RPMs and more quiet operation.
Regards,
JD

Someone on the forum has installed one, may have been more than one person. But the one I recall did an Argosy, had a matching Sprinter flat bed towing the Argosy and IIRC a Mini Cooper on the flat bed. Very interesting rig.

The one Perry linked to does not have a DC compressor.
It takes it's name from the fact that circuitry inside rectifies the 60 hz AC grid powered input to DC, and then inverts this DC back to AC at varying frequency.
The cooling or heating output is varied by changing the speed of the compressor via the varied frequency of the inverted AC.
In contrast to the old method of starting and stopping the compressor according to a thermostat.
This method eliminates the high energy "hard" starts of conventional AC units.

JD
