Screws holding filters to ceiling

I am thinking about retrofitting how the filters are mounted to the ceiling. I am thinking about installing bolts from the top through the ceiling and using thumb nuts to hold the filters up. Has anyone done this?

Are you referring to the ducted A/C supply registers, which tend to fall out?

Moosetags had problems with those:

When Lucy was about six months old, we had her at Jackson Center. Airstream replaced the original vents with the directional vents now in use. These new vents are always falling to the floor. I have tried several fixes including using two-sided tape around the outer plastic ring of the vents. This has worked somewhat, but is nopt a surefire fix. We still have vents fall, especially when we use the heat pump.

These vents are the product of a flawed design by Airstream.

This is a fairly easy project. The SS screws are these:

The nuts on the back side are flat SS t nuts 1/4" depth. I already had the nuts but here is an example of some (not correct size - need to search around for matching size). You can mount them upside down in the ceiling with the protrusion facing up instead of down through the hole:

https://www.amazon.com/Hillman-Group...7725969&sr=8-9

I used RTV like what you can find at Walmart (e.g. black Permatex Ultra) to secure them to the inside of the ceiling. Once the RTV dries the nuts will NOT move and are perfectly secured enough to finger tighten using the thumb screws. Use the screws to align/hold the nuts while they dry overnight.

Hope this helps!
