Reporting back on the Dickinson Marine Heater....

All I can say is WOW. This little thing kicks some serious butt. Not only is it beautiful, it looks incredible when in use. We were in the Shenandoah Mountains recently and the heater made it incredibly comfortable.

I installed it in our 64 ambassador, it's like having a gas fireplace inside the cabin. Very cool. Heats up the space like a charm. Little to no noise too!

Very nice..
can you show or tell more about the vent pipe.. how it goes through the roof, what type of roof penetration use etc.. Looks like Ventex flue pipe??

Was thinking on a way to have the roof penetration installed and maybe the cap with a section of pipe that extends below interior ceiling to be able to install vent pipe to small wood stove that was not a permanent type installation in the living space.. Not really wanting to "waste" the space needed to hang the, as in your case, a dickerson wood heater.

it is cool or warm,, installation..

Our fireplace is propane fired. A separate line was run to it, but the 12v power for the auxiliary fan is tapped from the wiring in the refrigerator compartment.

The flue came with the fireplace and is a double walled system. Combustion air is brought in the outside pipe. You can touch the flue without burning yourself, but it is too hot to hold on to for long. The specified diameter hole was cut in the inner and outer skin of the trailer and the flue connects to the flue cap on the roof. No leaks have been seen.

The space is not really wasted - it is mounted in place of the television that was there. If I was doing it again, though, I would have an upholsterer shorten the cushion under it and lower the installation a couple of inches.

What did it cost you including installation?

Do they make a wood fuel model?

They sell for under CA$900. The installation will likely take 4-5 hours.

They make a solid fuel model but it doesn’t have the see-through glass and needs more clearance as the flue is not double walled and it uses inside air for combustion.

AHHH was thinking it was the wood fired model.. Is the vent pipe SS or alum?? I understand about the direct vent type of gas appliances for sure.. That remove a lot of the down side of using LP in a Mr buddy, or the Thermal Wave vent free Cat heater that are so popular but do increase moisture inside the unit.

I was thinking about a wood unit that would not be mounted permanent.. something like a cubic mini woodstove that I would just put on a "table" and hook up to perm mounted vent pipe that sticks down past teh ceiling by a could inches when not in use.

Carl,
Some creative people have made wood fired heaters out of military ammo cans.
Google ammo can wood stove and you’ll get plenty of ideas.

The fireplace and flue are stainless steel.

Long time admirer of these heaters. NEVER would put a wood or coal burner inside an Airstream. The smell and the smoke stains are inevitable... and I'd do the panic dance if I were feeding the fire and a spider crawled out of the woodpile! Yuk!
The chimney is brilliant and efficient. Glad you like yours.

I have a wood stove in my Airstream, which is our sole off-grid heat source. Doesn't smell like smoke at all inside. All the smoke goes up the chimney.

Spiders in the wood pile, though ... yeah, that's definitely a possibility.

And in the 1800's no one would put a gas engine in a vehicle either, the smoke and smell.. guess what you are driving today..

a guy on youtube,, slim potato head,, did the ammo can wood stove deal.. lots of work for sure. but it works well.. it seems.

a wood stove in a RV or house is no different than a fireplace in your house..

Some of the little mini wood stove are a great way to heat with out all the moisture of LP vs a furnace which is a gas and power hog when running.

I hope to NOT spend a lot of time in cold climates but with the changing weather patterens you can never tell.
