Just replaced our original Dometic Penguin 15000 BTU heat pump with a new Penguin II 15000 BTU heat pump, part no. 651816CXX1C0.
In August, the 20A circuit breaker on the unit would immediately trip (much less than a second) each time the compressor came on. Used an ammeter, but the breaker would trip so quickly that a consistent measurement was not possible. I did notice several times that the ammeter would read > 20A.
The breaker was new as part of our 30A to 50A upgrade project. I swapped the breaker with a spare just to be sure, as it is an Eaton's dual purpose arc fault/ground fault circuit interrupter, 20A single pole CHFAFGF120CS. The new breaker also tripped just as the compressor stated. Put in a traditional 20A breaker, and the trip continued.
Camper Clinic II in Buda, TX did the replacement. Ordered
parts on August 29, and the earliest
installation was Oct 1.
Arrived with trailer at 8:30 am, and the service department texted that it was ready about 1:30pm. All seems to work well, and breaker no longer trips. Have not noticed any significant noise reduction, but seems to move more air than before.
Like the new thermostat.
Have been happy with the Dometic Penguin heat pump product for the past 15 years, and we hope the Penguin II gives us similar excellent service.
