R & R a Suburban Furnace

I had a reqest to post how I removed and replaced the Surburban model NT16S furnace in our Minuet. I would imagine this would work for about any unit with the same furnace.

The parts are available from any Suburban repair facility. There are a few on the web which will sell you parts.

To remove the furnace:

1.) Turn the thermostat down all the way.

2.) Go under the trailer and turn off the gas.

3.) On the outside vent for the furnace remove the screw located in the middle of the top round outlet of the furnance vent.

4.) Remove the front cover of the furnace

5.) Locate the screws which secure the furnace to the floor and remove them. (mine had 2 screws inside the furnace houseing towards the front)

6.) Slide the furnace forward a little and disconnect the power plug on the right side.

7.) Disconnect the gas line locted on the right side.

8.) Slide the furnace to the right and disconnect the two outlet air hoses. (they slide out of their slots once unscrewed)

With these steps completed the furnace should slide out.

To replace the furnace Just reverse the steps, it works just fine.

I am sorry I did not take pictures of this procedure. Once you start you will find it is evedent how it will work out.

However, can you also elaborate on what you did to replace the gasket in your heater. Was that so that you could clean it out?

P.S. - I always wondered what R&R was - I thought it was removed and "repaired." Forgot about the "replaced" part.

The gasket I'm talking about is more of a boot arangement.
It is located on the fresh air intake of the trailer furnace vent.
The top of the vent is for exhaust and the botom is the intake.
The boot is on the intake side. Make sure that it is in one piece clean and repositioned correctly when you reinstall the furnace.
When I had the furnace out I did a killer job of cleaning and inspection. R & R is too much trouble for a yearly maintenance.

OK - on our little trip this weekend - we thought we might need the heater one nite and, bummer, it didn't work. Well, the pilot lit, but no blower. When we got home, took the thermostat off, and tried wiring w/o thermostat and blower came on. Sooo... we need a new Suburban Thermostat Control. Does that part need to be ordered thru Suburban over net, or is it available thru local channels (ie, RV dealers)? Would like to get replaced over weekend, if possible. Thanks
