Has anyone ever tried to use a portable 120V AC unit? DeLonghi came out w/ a new one a little while back and it seems to be getting rave reviews from landlubbers - Amazon has trouble keeping it in stock:

My research on these things show they draw 9.5 to 13 amps and run between 12K and 14K BTUs. Seems adequate. Most double as dehumidifiers and some offer heat pump capabilities too, though I know those are little help lower than about 40 degrees F.

I'd really like to avoid a roof unit and have to run AC on shore power in any event - I'm not using an inverter - so, what the heck? Yeah, I'll have to bolt it down and jerry-rig a vent, maybe a drain, but those seem like simple tasks.

Eh? Worth a look? What say the the grizzled ones?

They take up a pretty big chunk of real estate inside a small trailer. The ones that have 2 hoses for air for the condenser side work better than single-hose ones, in general. I've used them in fixed locations but not in an Airstream.

I used an 8500 btu in 22 ft trailer. It did a good job.

I had a 12K BTU heat pump model that worked great in a fairly well insulated office. The exhaust was vented out the wall which means that all that volume of air had to leak in from outside, but it did work very well at both cooling and heating. I didn't pay the electric bill so I have no idea how efficient it was at making the comfort and it was a model that only had the one hose option for discharge air. I've seen some models that have the option for 2 hoses so you can choose to dump all the air from the half of the heat cycle you don't want to use and I think that would be a good feature in a lot of situations.
