Operationally Challenged

I guess I have lived in Texas too long and can’t figure out how heaters work. I have a 2010 27FB Classic. I don’t know if it has a heat pump in the overhead A/C unit. The control panel in the bedroom has four modes. Fan Only, Cool, Heat Pump, and Furnace.

When I turned on the Heat Pump, the furnace came on. How does one run just the heat pump?

Also, I read something about “the auto switchover from heat pump to furnace”, what is that about?

Thanks
Brad

How cold was it when the furnace came on instead of the HP? The heat pump will not run below about 36 - 38* or so. The auto switchover is reset (if the 12v has been disconnected by batt removal or cutoff switch) by turning off the tstat, holding down the top and bottom buttons then switching the tstat on. You should see "FF" on the screen.
The HP should come on (after a 2 minute delay sometimes) when heat pump is selected and it is above 36 - 38*.

My comments apply to the 5 button CCC and not the newer CCC2, which is a confusing bugger.

If you turn off the switch on the bottom of the CCC and hold down the top and bottom button on the face of the unit WHILE switching on the black switch on the bottom, you will see "FF" in the display until you release the buttons.

Assuming you have a heat pump and it is wired correctly, somewhere around the mid 30s* outside temp, the heat pump will switch over to the furnace automatically. In the morning or when temps rise again to that threshold, the system will switch back to heat pump.

Anytime 12V is removed from the CCC thermostat (batt removal or shutting off the cutoff switch at the power center, the reprogramming steps must be taken for the auto switchover to work. You must be in the HP mode for this to work. When the switch to furnace occurs, you will see both "aux. heat" and "heat pump" on the LCD display.

This is explained in manual....but I can't seem to find a pdf online.
