Mr. heater help

My 76 twenty-five's furnace is gone. I've decided not to replace it and instead have had a gas line from the tanks installed below where the stove is. I plan to connect a small propane heater...a MR. Heater brand has been recommended. Question anyone else done something similar and secondly how many BTU would it take to heat the 25 in moderate southern winters?
Also, apparently got to get the heads on the original propane tanks changed. How does that happen?

I'd recommend that you take your cylinders to an LP gas provider (not the convenience-store variety, of course). They will have a shop and are able to install the new valves plus re-certify your cylinder; they must be re-certified every 12 years or so anyway. You can find the date stamped on the guard part of the cylinder - if the date has expired then you likely won't be able to get them refilled.

Be sure to read all about the safety hazards of using a portable heater in your trailer.

Welcome to the forums, by the way.

Keep in mind, that should your coach be exposed to freezing weather, your proposed heater will not prevent a freeze up.

Your heating system, as designed, forces some hot air around the water and holding tanks, as well as the water lines in the coach.

If the heat is not circulated to the tanks by forced air, or copper tubing, should there be any water in those tanks, or water lines, it will freeze.

That in turn, will cost considerable money to fix.

You can avoid that issue if you properly winterize the trailer.

I would like to add another quick thought. Here in Little Rock we certainly have moderate southern winters. I can recall many Christmas afternoons in short sleeves. Usually need a jacket, but it is generally mild here.

It was 14 last night and right now it is 24 (Fahrenheit, it is the US after all). The current forecast calls for highs in the 27-28 range for Thursday-Saturday with lows down to 11. There is a possibility of single digits.

Also, take a look at this thread from yesterday: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f458...age-59926.html. If cold weather can be a concern in Houston, you might want to consider it too.

Houston, Texas

Not to many days ago , Houston had, believe it or not, [SNOW].

My two grandsons that live in Houston, called and were besides themselves, because of the snow.

Orlando Florida, just reported some freezing weather.

No properly circulated heat in an Airstream trailer, is OK, IF there is NO water in any tanks, or in the water lines.

If there is, and a freeze takes place, you can probaly look at spending a bunch of money, for the repairs and/or replacements.
