Leak from ac inside.

It's not from the condenser. It happens when it rains. The leak is coming from above the inside skin but out through the AC opening.

It was not leaking at the time of this picture, but I'm pointing to the place the leak occurs. Not sure of the origin, thus the post.

Make sure that the A/C bolts that hold the unit in place are tightened. If I remember correctly they have to be 6 ft/lb. Had the same problem and tightened the mounting bolts up and problem went away. It seems that these bolts manage to get loose over time, and possibly the gasket shrinks as well. There are either 3 or 4 bolts on the unit. Good luck!!

hmm, I have the opposite problem. The PO over-tightened the bolts at some point. I loosened them and retorqued them with an accurate beam wrench to 50 inch-lbs as specified in the installation. I'm waiting for a rain to see if the slow drip has stopped. If it doesn't, I haven't decide what to do, this late in the year. Fortunately, it drips into the support c-channel instead of the insulation between the skins, and so a pail would catch it.

My trailer had a minor leak like that. Tightening the bolts did not help. I did not want to pull the AC to replace the gasket for such a minor leak. My trailer has the Airstream plastic drip pan. I got on the roof and put a piece of rope caulk around the edge of the pan. The leak stopped. If and when, I decide to pull the AC, the rope caulk will easily come right off.

I was considering the same thing. Could you direct me on how to access the bolts in question?

Regards,
Pete

Take the plastic air box on the ceiling down and you see them.

I have been considering that fix. The rope caulk that I've seen is the Mortite clay-like material. Does it, or should I ask how soon does it, dry out? I have also considered using Execel sealant that adheres well and can be used on wet surfaces, but the road side is obstructed by the fume baffle. I suppose that I could rig up an extension for the caulking tube tip, but that would likely pop off since there is so much resistance to flow. So maybe the rope caulk will be the best option for treatment at this point.

Rope caulk doesn't really dry out or if it does it takes a long time. It sticks well where you press it, but will peel off easily if you want to remove it....There is no way, I would apply liquid caulk. It's too much of a mess to remove later.

Had the same thing happen to my AC but thought the drip tube was plugged up. It wasn't that. I looked at the AC shroud and found that a cluster of 3 acorns fell on top and tore out an 8" triangular shaped hole. The acorns were still attached to the small limb. When it rained, water went straight down one of the mounting beams and into the trailer.

In anticipation of heavy rain, yesterday I went up and laid the rope caulk around the AC unit. I was just able to fit my arm into the space between the baffle and unit by laying down. I found that a gloved finger or the handle of a toothbrush dipped in mineral spirits was effective in smoothing the rope caulk. Also, I found a couple of hairline cracks in the upper shroud, and these were sealed with Lexel transparent sealant. (I mistakenly called it 'Execel' in the post above.) There were no leaks today.

Glad you found an easy fix.
