Interior AC cover - I KNOW where the yellow went.

Some of these days, one thing will quit leading to another, and I shall be bereft, without direction, a sad, wandering vagabond.

I was out pouring Rot Doctor onto the soft area under the water heater (which was removed to re-weld a bad weld on the treaded inlet), and remembered the heating element was out of the Coleman Mach 3 AC unit. With the fall camping season about here, I thought it might come in handy to have it working.

While I had the interior cover off the AC, I decided I had looked at the ugly yellow color of that thing long enough - especially as I had a nearly full can of Krylon Fusion white spray paint in the garage.

It could scarcely have been easier. I pried off the two aluminum plates that go behind the controls, peeled off the trim gasket around the top of the cover and sprayed away. The aluminum plates have to be glued back in place (auto trim cement), but the gasket trim is a press on affair.

And while I had it out, I also fixed the two louvers that tended not to stay put. It seems they use a plastic or rubber O ring around the pivots to provide friction and the years had not been kind. I snapped on a small rubber O ring out of my plumbing supplies and put 'em back in. Voilla - adjustable louvers.

The white looks so much better than that awful yellow it is hard to credit it.

One or two more applications of Rot Doctor, and the water heater can go back.

I finally thought to get a photo to post.

I know it is a small item, but that yellow cover had really annoyed me. It was much darker, much more yellow than the smoke alarm in the upper right.
