Hydro flame in Caravel

Our '67 Caravel's furnace doesn't heat very well. I can get the pilot to light and when I rotate the dial for more heat, I can hear it kick in, but...it doesn't throw out the heat like it use to. Now we are smelling gas and are afraid to wake up dead. So we're alive and cold and the little dog is dreading the next outing.

Are there any photos on removal/cleaning procedures? We'd like to camp one more time, but it's getting cold in Wisconsin!

Thanks from a suffering Packer fan.

A 43 year old furnace, that has any problem, should be replaced, quickly.

Repair parts are not available for that heater.

Thanks Andy. Could it be that the propane is low? Do they still add alcohol to the tanks, prior to refilling?

If you think that propane level might be causing the problem, then switch to a bottle that you know has plenty in it.

I am not aware of the need to add alcohol to propane for any reason.

Our Hydroflame went out with a bang a few years ago! We replaced it with a modern furnace like they have in the new Bambis. It fit perfectly into the space and works great. The fan in it is a little noisier, I miss the quiet of the original heater, but I like the safety features of the new one.

Thanks again Andy. and Steph...we may be headed down that road. Glad to hear it fits in the original space. Is the fan really noisy or could you consider it white noise?

Well, it's fine during the day, but at night we sleep on the side gaucho, with my head right next to the furnace, so it bugs me a little, but I've gotten used to it. If we used the dinette for a bed it wouldn't bother me at all.
