How many BTUs to cool?

My 65 Boles Aero came witha very cool Westinghouse window unit ducted in under the fridge.

It finally stopped working after about 40 years.

Not sure how many BTU's it is.

It can be replaced with any window unit less than 15" tall.

The trailer is 24' inside, I am assuming construction, insulation and heat reflection to be comparable to an Airstream .

I live in North Carolina so we need pretty robust cooling in the summer.

thanks

Dave

you might want to post the size of your trailer so some folks with similarly sized units can give you some feedback. trailers don't offer much in insulation but offer lots in heat transfer!

I'm sorry, I thought i did, the trailer is a Boles Aero 260k with a 24-foot living space.

The stick & staple folks think nothing of putting 13,000 BTU's on everything but I'm seeking real world info on the cooling needs of a vintage airstream in the 24-26 foot range as I think that would be comparable to my Boles.

My 27 foot excella is probably around 23 floor space and I use a 13,500 BTU. Its been good up to 100 degrees parked in the shade. But I wouldnt hang meat in there... Sal.

Hi Dave

Welcome to the forums. Neat trailer you have there.

The air conditioning experience people have reported on the forums has varied considerably. I think it depends a lot on your expectations and how you use your trailer.

I find that the 13,500 BTU air conditioner in the forward half of my 30' trailer is insufficient to cool the 20' or so area it serves under adverse conditions. Hot, humid, sunny, windy days are the worst and I've camped in some unprotected sites where that kind of thing was a problem.

I would think you would want to look at 12,000 BTU window units since that is usually the largest size that comes in a 120 volt configuration unless you look at high efficiency units which are physically larger and heavier and therefore less suitable for a trailer.

Even a well made trailer is not as well insulated as a house so the calculators for that aren't much help.
