Hot Water Issue When Boondocking

We get hot water just fine in our 2014 27FB Classic when we're plugged into shore power; we don't when we are boondocking. We've been on the road for several weeks and just noticed this problem for the first time a couple of days ago. We suspect there is a problem with the gas line to the hot water heater since it works just fine when we have shore power. We've had no problems with our other gas appliances when boondocking - just the hot water heater.

Our questions are:

1) what changed?
2) is there an easy DIY approach for diagnosis and fix, or is this best taken care
of at an RV service center?
3) if there is an easy DIY approach, what are the steps to diagnose and fix?

Thanks.

You have turned on the propane power switch versus the electric power switch for the water heater? Does the red light come on and stay on? That is a warning that it failed to ignite on propane. Check the burner area for mud dauber nests, they love propane fumes.

My understanding is that bugs will build a nest in burner and can cause the burner to not light. You can try compressed air to blow it out or coat hanger.
