Help with A/C

I have an original Armstrong A/C ('69) that works great--until the thermostat temp. is reached. At that point, the unit makes a lot of LOUD clicking noises and a few rattles as it tries to turn the compressor off. It will eventually turn off (compressor), but repeats the problem when it once again reaches desired temp. If I turn it off manually, no problem. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Kent

Thermostat is confused!

I believe that the thermostat is trying to decide whether or not to turn off the compressor. Try replacing the thermostat.

RVnDixie, you are correct. I replaced the thermostat with a new digital one and it works great. Thanks.

Kent,

You are most welcome! I'm glad my suggestion helped! That should fix you up for a good long while.
