I have just gone through the same thing...
With my '82 Excella...PO had the trailer out on a deer lease and the motor and capacitors had a lot of mud dauber nests...needless to say that the motor finally quit...I could barely turn the shaft...SO...
New A/c would cost in the neighborhood of $800...a neighborhood that I cannot go to since losing my job last year...SO...
I checked around at dealers, independent repair places, looking for old, used A/Cs that would use the same motor...a local repair shop said he had a couple...$25 if i would take the whole thing since he has a bunch stacked in the yard...found one with the correct motor and used the motor, capacitors, fan & squirrell cage to replace the busted ones on my unit...he gave it to me to take out of his yard...found a used lower unit with the correct wiring to utilize the dual speed on my unit(it was a single speed) bought a new dual speed switch for $13 from my local dealer...put it all back together and now have a working dual speed ac unit that I hope will last another season or two...
check for used ac units sitting in the yard of your local dealer/repair they
may be free cause the compressor is cratered or they lost the r-22 that is now illegal and the dealer just needs to get rid of it...I took the scraps to the local recycle lot...
good luck in finding what you need...
