Heat Pump Problems

Hi all,
I had my heat pump on for a few hours. It's parked on the side of my house so I was going in and out of it. I left it for about an hour when I came back there was a burning smell in the trailer and no hot air coming out of the vents. The motor sounded funny. I turned it off of course. I didn't want to mess with it any further since I don't know what I'm doing. I couldn't find much info about the heat pump or how it works etc. in my manuals.
Anybody know how the heat pump is suppose to function, why this happened and what do about it? Also where to find trouble shooting info?
Is my Air Conditioner burnt up as well?

Thanks for any help
Julie

Julie.

Don't mess with it or turn it back on.

Call Jim Parrot tomorrow, and tell him what happened.

When I run my heat pump and it gets down below about 40 degrees it does the same thing you're describing except for the burning smell. Ice will slowly build up on the outside of the unit and it will occasionally perform the de-icing process that you described hearing. Usually after a few minutes it will switch back to blowing hot air again.

The burning smell should be a concern. Hopefully you weren't plugged in using the 30 to 15 amp adapter. The ac/heat pump units in newer Airstreams pull nearly 15 amps when they run and you may have been overloading your power system.
