furnace wont shut off!

Ok. So we bought a 69 Tradewind. Almost everything that is touched seemed to need repair. That is why when the furnace worked with the flip of a switch I was extatic. The first time that is... Last weekend we took it out on a 90 deg weekend and my 3 yr old decides it would be fun to play with the thermostat. Furnace worked just fine...except it wouldn't shut off. We were swealtering. Had to shut off the gas but the blower continued for another half hour. I had to dig in the wall to cut the hard wire hot line to make it stop. Anyone have this happen to them? Suggestions? Looks like the furnace is not original. Suburban CAN/CGA-2.3-M93. Thanks!
